Govt vehicles banned from operating during weekends, public holidays

Information sourced by faceofmalawi indicates that government has with immediate effect banned use of state owned vehicles during weekends and public holidays.

This is part of the Expenditure Control Measures and Fleet Management Procedures taken by movement, according to a press statement from Chief Secretary to the President Dr. Lloyd Muhara released on Tuesday.

“Any movement of government vehicles outside working hours, weekends and public holidays should be authorized, in writing, personally by the Controlling Officer or Head of Department. Any vehicle without such authority shall be impounded by the police, the driver and officer abusing the vehicle shall face disciplinary action, including surcharge and interdiction,” reads in part the statement.

The statement further says government has trimmed fuel allocation to all state owned vehicles with immediate effect
.
“Weekly, refueling of each vehicle for local running should be limited to thirty (30) litres for saloon motor vehicles and forty (40) litres for four wheel drive (4X4) motor vehicles. Buses and Lorries should only be fueled when need arises, otherwise they should be refueled with forty 40) litres per week.

“Controlling Officers should personally authorize, in writing> when need arises to exceed the fuel limits stated for local running,” added Muhara.
