Chaponda, Jeffrey wa Jeffrey forcing DPP MPs to endorse Mutharika

Information sourced by faceofmalawi indicates that former Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr. George Chaponda and Secretary General of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party Greselder Jeffrey (DPP) are mobilizing the party MPs to publicly endorse President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika ahed of the 2019 polls.

According to inside source, Jeffrey wa Jeffrey and Chaponda who is also DPP Vice President for the south last week organised a meeting at the party’s headquarters in the capital Lilongwe where all DPP MPs attended the meeting.

In the meeting the two ordered all DPP MPs to publicly support Mutharika and to condemn the country’s vice President Saulos Chilima.

The MPs revealed this to one of the local radio stations in the country (TIMES radio). According to the MPs who opted for the condition of anonymity, those MPs who are supporting Chilima such as Bon Kalindo, Allan Ngumuya, Patricia Kaliati were not invited to the meeting.

The MPs to the meeting also agreed to hold demonstrations in all constituencies where its MPs are behind Chilima.

When contacted for comment Jeffrey wa Jeffrey distanced herself from the claims, saying DPP MPs are doing it for themselves.

The ruling DPP is currently divided into two camps following the remarks made by former first lady endorsing Chilima as the only hope for the DPP in the forthcoming polls.

Callista Mutharika publicly rejected Mutharika’s candidature saying Mutharika is too old to rule this country again.

The remarks were supported by DPP youth director Louis Ngalande and other DPP MPs.
