DPP not amused with party materials with Chilima’s face

As the infighting continues to rock the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the 2019 polls over who is going to be the torchbearer, the party has expressed concern over the unauthorized printing and distribution of party materials.

The concern follows the resurface of party T-shirts bearing the face of the country’s vice President Saulos Chilima who some top officials in the party led by former first lady Callista Mutharika wants to represents DPP in 2019.

Member of Parliament for Mulanje Bon Kalindo, popularly known as Winoko confirmed of being behind the printing of the T-shirts, saying soon vehicles for the campaign will be on the roads.

In a statement released on Tuesday signed by DPP Secretary General Greselder Jeffrey wa Jeffrey said the party has noted with concern that the materials produced by some unscrupulous individuals are carrying wrong messages as regards the leadership of the party and presidential candidature for the 2019 tripartite elections.

The party strongly states that the approved face to appear on the DPP emblem is that of the party’s founding President Professor Bingu wa Mutharika or that of an incumbent president from time to time.

The statement further states that the incumbent president Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is the only individual currently entitled to have his face printed on the DPP emblem or cloth.

The party therefore describes the act as a provocation to the DPP membership and advises that it reserves the right to sue the printers and distributors of such material and confiscate the materials.

The party is therefore reminding all those concerned that it is an offence and political provocation to produce or distribute material bearing DPP trademarks, designs, emblems or symbols.

The DPP says it is aware that the unauthorized materials are being produced with money from individuals that are working with the DPP ‘s political enemies with an aim of destroying the party.
