Teen Arrested for Raping 73-Year-Old Granny in Kasungu

A kasungu teenage boy aged 18 has landed into police custody for allegedly raping a 73-year-old granny at Jalang’ombe village in the area of traditional authority Mwase, Kasungu.

Kasungu police station deputy relations officer Harry Namwaza has identified the suspect as Martin Phiri who comes from the same village of Jalang’ombe, Traditional Authority Mwase in Kasungu district

Namwaza said on the material day, the victim and her grandchildren were taking locally brewed Kachaso beer when the suspect came and joined them.

“After joining them, Phiri brought out K500 and gave the victim’s two grandchildren to go and get some more beer. Phiri took advantage of the situation and dragged the old woman to a nearby bush where he raped her.” Said Namwaza.

The victim reported the matter to Kasungu Police Station where she was referred to Kasungu Hospital for a test.

The suspect will soon appear in court for rape charges.
