By Robert Kumwenda

Opposition Umodzi party has organized get together meeting for the youth Saturday at its headquarters to discuss issues that can help the party and the youth.

Speaking in an interview with face of Malawi Public Relations Officer for the party Pemphero Mphande said they want to bring together young people for the purpose of learning, building and bonding among young people in the party.

He said this is to create a platform where young people can share views on how best to sell the party and how to actively take part in politics so that they can help to develop Malawi.

“It is important for young people to get together because they are no longer to be seen as leaders of tomorrow but today. Therefore we must start being involved today,” he said.

Mphande who is shadow Member of Parliament for Blantyre City South under UP ticket said if they do not get involved they will remain sidelined and their voices as well as vision for the country will never be heard or come to fruition respectively.

“We are expecting not less than fifty young people mostly from Blantyre although we have a representation from central and northern regions youth committees,” he said.

He said the overall objective is that young people must start taking active roles and leadership in political parties and in this case UP in particular.

Speaking on the same development Administrative Officer Arnold Khondiwa said they youth to come together and discuss issues that affects them because nowadays politics is for the youth although other people do not want them to be involved in politics.

He said youth must not be overlooked as ordinary citizens because whatever decisions that happens in politics also affects them.
