CSOs call for the resignation of ACB Director Reyneck Matemba for siding with Mutharika

Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) trading under the banner Human Rights Defenders Coalition have demanded for the immediate resignation of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director over his decision to clear President Professor Arthur Peter Muthatika in the MK145 million food ration scandal.

The CSOs said this in a media briefing held on Wednesday in the capital Lilongwe where they also revealed that all is set for national wide demonstration slated for September 7.

In his speech the coalition’s Vice Chairperson Gift Trapence said the grouping is not amused with how ACB Director Reyneck Matemba is discharging his duties.

Trapence cited clearing of Mutharika in MK145 million, saying the reasons given by Matemba are weak in nature.

“We have lost trust in him, he is politically manipulated, he is siding with the government, because we have two different reports coming from the same institution,” said Trapence.

He added that the coalition wants Matemba to tell the nation how ACB cleared the president when the report clearly states that Mutharika personally benefited from the deal.

The CSOs have since warned Mutharika to stop intimidating them on the matter.
