Govt admits being on the wrong for trimming Chilima’s security, opt for outside court settlement

The Office of the President and Cabinet and the Malawi Police Service have admitted to be on the wrong for withdrawing security detail of the Country’s Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also leader of United Transformation Movement (UTM).

OPC and the Malawi Police Service have since promised to restore Chilima’s Security detail and all vehicles that were withdrawn.

This has been disclosed in a court document issued on Wednesday made available to faceofmalawi reporter.

According to the court document, the state has since been ordered to pay costs for the legal action that followed the action taken by the government.

“The decisions of the Respondents reducing the number of police officers guarding [at] the official residences of the Applicant in Lilongwe and Blantyre; transferring police officers working at the said residences; and withdrawing some of the motor vehicles assigned to the office of the Vice President of the Republic of Malawi be and are hereby wholly and effectually withdrawn.

“The Respondents shall pay costs of these proceedings and the same are to be taxed if not agreed by the Parties,” reads in part the court document.
