Mutharika’s niece granted bail

A niece to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, Manice Hale, popularly known as Manice Abiti William Dawood has been granted bail by the Lilongwe Magistrate Court.

Dawood was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly insulting the President but she pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against her , according to court documents seen by faceofmalawi reporter.

The critic who is also Mutharika’s relative was arrested at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) as she was about to leave the country for United States of America.

The Lilongwe magistrate court ordered her to surrender her traveling documents and pay K100 000 as bail bond and that she be reporting to police every Friday.

The court has also ordered her to report to the police headquarters every Friday and to provide two sureties of K50, 000.

The case is set to commence on September 6 2018.
