Bushiri to appear before CRL Rights Commission over ECG stamped

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of Enlighten Christian Gathering (ECG) church is today expected to appear before CRL Rights Commission over December 31 stampede that claimed three lives.

Bushiri confirmed of the summon in a statement made available to faceofmalawi reporter, saying will be leading the church at the CRL Rights Commission.

“Today, from 10:00 hours (CAT), I will be leading the Church in appearing before the CRL Rights Commission to present our report regarding the 28 December 2018 incident which happened at our Pretoria Branch,” reads in part the statement.

According to information at hand, the meeting has been called to resolve several claims, accusations and counter-claims and to discuss marches and demonstrations organised by the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco), which is demanding the church’s closure.

“In order to get to the bottom of these issues and to address the discrepancies that continue to prevail, the CRL Rights Commission has decided to call for the hearings in line with Section 7 (2) of the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of the Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities Act, 19 of 2002,” the commission’s Mpiyakhe Mkholo said.

Bushiri denies responsible of the stampede.

Three people died and nine others were injured during the stampede.
