Gospel singer San B to contest as MP for Blantyre City Central Constituency

Renowned gospel musician San B has declared his interest to contest as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Blantyre City Central Constituency, on an independent ticket.

The artist real-name San Bennet Msokera has joined rapper Tay-Grin, by joining frontline politics ahead of the May 21 tripartite elections.

The gospel music artist said he decided to contest as MP in the 2019 polls after observing what he described as failures to develop the area by former legislators of the constituency.

Speaking in an interview, San B said:’’ After wide consultations and observing challenges affecting people in my constituency , as a youth I have decided to stand up and help them in addressing challenges affecting the area”.

‘’Voicing out from outside as youths we won’t achieve our goals and it is my plea to fellow youths to play a leading role in developing the country” Said Msokera.

He said by joining frontline politics does not signal the end of his music career:” I am where I am because of music; it has created a platform for people to know me and therefore I will never abandon music”.

The pelemende hit-maker said he decided to contest on an independent ticket in order to fully serve people of Blantyre City Central Constituency.

Among other notable people contesting in the constituency are former cabinet minister Eunice Makwangwala, incumbent legislator Themba Mkandawire and the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) aspirant Chipiliro Mpinganjira.
