‘No beer party at State House today’ -Mgeme

State House has denied issuing a statement of hosting a beer party dubbed Chibuku Shake Shake Beer Party for Central Region youths at Kamuzu Palace tonight [Friday].

This week the social media was awash with reports that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has organized a ‘Chibuku shake shake’ party for 1,700 Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) youths for the central region at Kamuzu Palace.

According to the reports, Mutharika was expected to splash money amounting to MK30 million and each youth was expected to pocket MK20, 0000 each and a t-shirt.

When contacted for comment Presidential spokesperson, Mgeme Kalilani described the rumour as fake.

“State House has not released any statement inviting people to a beer party; not at all. State House does not host such parties so it is news to me,” said Kalirani.

Kalilani said political opponents might be behind the statement, saying it is not surprising especially during the campaign period.

“We are in that period where we are heading towards elections. Issues of gossip, mudslinging and character assassination are becoming topical day by day.

“Rumor mongers will always be there in our society. They have quite a huge appetite for spreading false information especially with the coming in of social media,” he said.

Mutharika’s administration if facing criticisms from the general public for failing to fulfill 2014 campaign promises.
