Three people killed in road accident at Linthupe 3 Bridge

Three people have lost their lives whilst several are injured in a terrible accident that happened near Linthipe 3 Bridge in Dedza.

Dedza Deputy Police Spokesperson, Constable Cassim Manda has confirmed the accident.

In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana), he explained that the accident occurred around 8:00 pm on January 4, 2019 near Linthipe 3 Bridge.

Manda said that, “ John Sou the driver of a freightliner truck registration number MC 3461/ CK 2270 was driving from the direction of Dedza heading to Lilongwe on the M1 road and as he approached Linthipe 3 bridge, he hit the rear of a Toyota Hiace minibus KK 4835 which was heading the same direction.”

“The truck swerved to the offside of the road and collided head on with an Isuzu van registration number MJ 7295 which was coming the opposite direction,” he added.

According to Manda, 24 year old Matias Marko of Mkwekwere village in Traditional Authority (TA) Kalembo in Balaka and 16 year old, Mike Jabu of Kawanga village TA Kalembo died on the spot due severe internal and head injuries.

The Police added that another passenger from the Isuzu van only known as Mr. Thom died while receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck, John Sou sustained a hip dislocation and other 13 passengers escaped with minor injuries.
