Stormy rains affect 293 household in Mwanza

Prolonged stormy rains (rains accompanied by heavy winds) that recently hit most parts of Mwanza District affected 293 households (approximately 1611 people, according to a disaster assessment report from the district council.

The report states that the affected are in dire need of beddings, foodstuffs and kitchen utensils.

“The rains, which continuously fell from 16th to 24th January, affected some areas in traditional authorities Kanduku, Nthache and Govati and damaged a number of houses. A total of 109 people [64 males and 45 females] were displaced and they sought refuge in their relations’ houses,” reads part of the report, adding that the rains left one person injured.

Meanwhile, the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) is making arrangements to distribute relief items to the affected people. The items will be distributed on Thursday, 7th February, 2019.
