APAM to meet Mutharika in Mzuzu

Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that the Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) has agreed to travel to Mzuzu and meet President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika today and present their grievances.

Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare Cecilia Chazama disclosed this today in Parliament during a presentation on progress of interventions of atrocities, abductions and killings of persons with albinism.

Chazama said government will pay all traveling expenses that will be anchored during the trip to the Northern Region.

According to Chazama, 9 persons with albinism were injured by the law enforcers during the demonstrations.

APAM President Overstone Kondowe also confirmed of the incident in a statement posted on his official facebook page.

“During the peaceful demonstrations by APAM & CSOs yesterday Malawi Police Service Officers brutally manhandled persons with albinism leaving them with fractures and open bleeding wounds.

“These are Thokozani Mika & Innocent James. The Minister of Gender, Hon Cecelia Chazama MP later on provided transport for them to get treatment at hospital,” wrote Kondowe.

Chazama went further to inform the house that President Mutharika has instituted a Commission of Inquiry to thoroughly investigate albino killings in the country.
