Heavy floods wash away Makumba Bridge in Mangochi

Heavy rains have damaged Mukumba Bridge along the Mangochi Makanjira road, effectively disconnecting the people of Traditional Authorities Makanjira and Namavi from Mangochi Boma.

The road is currently impassable such that people who, in the morning visited Mangochi from Makanjira and Namavi are failing to return to their respective bases.

Among others, Ambulances services have also been stopped waiting for the bridge to be maintained.

Five health facilities namely, Lulanga, Makanjira, Lugola, Kadango and Lungwera refer their critical patients to Mangochi District hospital, which at the moment is impossible.

Meanwhile, National Roads Authority is yet to comment on the possibility of fixing the bridge as soon as possible.
