Analysts Condemns Xenophobic Attacks

Human right activists in the country have joined hands in calling for an end to attacks against foreign immigrants in South Africa.

Chairperson of Human Rights consultative Committee (HRCC), Robert Mkwezalamba who is also the chairperson of Black Economic Empowerment Movement (Mablem) asked South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa to condemn the acts in strong terms.

According to Mkwezalamba, leaders in South Africa rallied to halt the xenophobic attacks therefore they must apologize for the lives lost during the attack.

“Apart from condemning the attack, Ramaphosa should apologize for the lives lost during the attack,” he said.

CSOs have since recommended that SADC Heads of government meeting should convene an emergency session to address the latest development.

Commenting on the matter Minister of Information and Technology Henry Mussa said the government is doing everything to ensure the safety of Malawi citizens.

“Government is doing everything possible to secure the safety and welfare of our citizens,” Mussa said.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation’s Lindiwe Sisulu on Monday called a meeting with representatives from other countries to resolve the matter.
