Bingu Statue Stirs Anger

The statue of former President Professor Bingu Wa Mutharika which is scheduled to be unveiled on April 5 in the capital Lilongwe at parliament building has attracted different views and opinions from Malawians.

The statue which has been built in South Africa, costing MK120 million has raised a number of questions amongst Malawians as the statue has no Bingu resemblance.

Expressing their views on social media, angry Malawians are requesting government to return the statue so that it should be done properly.

“Can you send it back and have it done properly…there is money involved here,” commented Temwani Chinula Banda.

Concurring with Banda, Peter Mphundi said the statue does not resemble former president of the country.

“This thing doesn’t resemble former president of Malawi,” he said.

He further added that whoever was behind the development is a failure

“Who so ever is behind this statue is a flop,” he said.

The statue will be unveiled on April 5, incumbent President Professor Peter Mutharika who is also a brother to late Mutharika is expected to attend the unveiling ceremony.
