Third round of the Presidential debates is scheduled for this coming Friday, April 5 2019 at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe, faceofmalawi can reveal.
Chairman of the organizing taskforce Teresa Temweka Ndanga confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
According to Ndanga, the third round of the presidential debate will have eight participants namely; President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), United Tranformation Movement (UTM) Dr. Saulos Chilima, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi.
Other participants are; Umodzi Party (UP) President Professor John Chisi, Mbakuwaku Movement for Development (MMD) President Peter Kuwani, Tikonze Peoples Movement (TPM) President Dr. Cassim Chilumpha and the only Independent President Reverend Kaliya.
She said the debate is expected to start at 6pm and will be beamed live on Zodiak tv, Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC tv) and Times tv.
It is yet to be as to whether President Mutharika and former President Dr. Cassim Chilumpha will attend the third debate after missing the first and second debate respectively.
The ruling DPP through its Secretary General Grezeldar Jeffery two weeks ago issued a statement saying the party will not take part in any debate.
The party accused the organisers of being biased.
