YONECO Staff Assists 450 Adolescent Girls And Women In Nsanje

YONECO staff have assisted about 450 children, adolescent girls and women in Nsanje district – who were affected by Cyclone Idai – with assorted relief items.

Following the floods that hit some parts of Malawi in March 2019, YONECO staff members joined hands and raised funds amongst themselves, which were used to buy items for the disaster survivors.

The items; which include sugar, kitchen utensils, sanitary pads, wrappers (zitenje), clothes, laundry and bathing soap, were distributed to survivors in Nyamithuthu and Kalupsa camps on Wednesday, 8 May 2019.

YONECO is currently conducting roadshows in flood evacuation camps to raise awareness about Child Protection, Gender Based Violence (GBV), and Community Based Complaints Mechanism (CBCM) among other things.

The awareness sessions are being conducted in Chikwawa, Zomba, Machinga, Phalombe, Nsanje and Mulanje under YONECO’s Flood Emergency Response Programme – with funding from UNICEF.
