Jane Ansah refuses to resigns, accuses Chilima, HRDC of being involved in mob justice

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah has refused to resign for failing to properly manage the May 21 tripartite election.

Ansah said this in an exclusive interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) on Monday night monitored by faceofmalawi reporter.

The MEC Chairperson accused Dr. Saulos Chilima of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) and Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) who are demanding her immediate resignation of being involved in mob justice.

She said mob justice in the constitution of the republic of Malawi.

“What they are doing is mob justice. We don’t have mob justice in Malawi. It is not allowed for people to take the law in their hands.

“Are Chilima and the Human Rights defender prosecutor, investigators and judges of me?” she said.

Added Ansah: “My circumstances demand that those who are saying that I should resign have the mandate, at the moment they don’t…they have surrendered that to court so let us wait for the courts to decide.”

Turning on her instructing fellow commissioners to help her insure that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika wins the May 21 tripartite election as alleged by Chilima, Ansah denied the claims by describing it as unfounded allegations.

She said she only interacted closely with MEC Chief Elections Officer Sam Alfandika throughout the electoral process.

Ansah also refuted receiving MK2 billion bribe from President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
