DoDMA comforts families of road accident victims

Director Responsible for Response and Recovery in the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA), Harris Kachale Wednesday comforted family members of nine road accident victim in Balaka.

On July 3, 2019 nine people from the same family died in a head on collision accident at Ndege in Machinga, as they were on their way to Zomba after visiting family members in Balaka.

On Monday, Vice President Everton Chimulirenji visited the bereaved families in Balaka where he promised that government would step in and assist the bereaved family.

Hence the visit by the Director who said he had come to fulfill government’s pledge of assisting the bereaved family as it needed urgent support.

Kachale pointed out that, “Apart from assisting the bereaved family members, we will reach out to other community members in this village as the Chief had indicated to the Vice President that a lot of people do not have enough food,”

The Director urged all bereaved family members to share the food equally.

“We have brought 30 bags of maize, beans, sugar, salt, kapenta, soya pieces just to mention a few. You should share the food equally,” he advised.

District Commissioner (DC) for Balaka, Ali Phiri commended DoDMA for the timely intervention.

“When disaster hit, people look up to the DCs office for support. The donation has not only helped the bereaved family alone, but the DCs office which is facing financial problems,” he said.

A representative of the family, Kasonga Kayera expressed gratitude to government for the assistance.

“We had no hope, we are crying and this assistance will go a long way in alleviating some of the problems that we have,” he said.
