Uladi Mussa speaks out on his ban from entering US: ‘I am innocent’

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for Central Region Uladi Mussa who is also Presidential Advisor on Parliamentary Affairs has trashed the decision by the US government to ban him and his immediate family members from travelling to America for his alleged involvement in “significant corruption”, saying his innocent.

Mussa allegedly engaged in and benefited from public corruption in relation to his official duties while minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security.

“This designation is made under Section 7031(c) of the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Act of 2019. Section 7031(c) provides that, in cases where the Secretary of State has credible information that foreign officials have been involved in significant corruption or gross violations of human rights, those individuals and their immediate family members are ineligible for entry into the United States,” reads part of the statement banning Mussa.

But reacting to the statement, Mussa said the decision by the US Government to ban him is wrong, arguing that he is innocent until proven guilty by the court of law.

“The decision is totally wrong; nobody is guilty until proven guilty by a court of law. I did my noble duty as a minister and, as far as I am concerned, I am innocent,” said Mussa.

When asked as to whether he is having plans to travel to America anytime soon, Mussa said that has not closed his mind.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Mussa in 2017 together with former chief citizenship officer at the Immigration Department David Kwanjana.
