Chimulirenji in Japan, Mutharika back to Sanjika Palace

State Vice President Honourable Everton Herbert Chimulirenji left the country on Sunday for Yokohama, Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

Chimulirenji who left the country through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in the capital Lilongwe will represent President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika at the conference for the first time in the history of the country.

According to the statement from the Office of the Vice President signed by his Press Officer Charles Wahara, the conference will run for three days from August 28 to 30 August 2019.

Meanwhile President Mutharika secretly returned from Mangochi Monkey-Bay on Saturday evening and is currently at Sanjika Palace.

Mutharika is rarely seen in public of-late due to the ongoing political tension where Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) led by its Timothy Mtambo are seeking the immediate resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah.

HRDC is accusing Ansah of failing to manage the May 21 tripartite election which saw President Mutharika being declared winner.

The grouping has been holding mass-protest across the country and government properties including that of some Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have been torched in the process.

On Friday, Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) obtained Court injunction restraining HRDC from holding airports and border demonstrations scheduled for today.

The grouping has since said that it will hold national wide protest from Wednesday, August 28, 2019 to Friday August 30, 2019.
