Four people arrested over anti-Jane Ansah demos in Karonga

Four people have spent a night in police cell for allegedly mobilizing citizens to take part in anti-Jane Ansah demonstrations on Wednesday despite Malawi Supreme Court order to have the protests suspended in the next 14 days.

Karonga Police spokesperson, Enock Livason confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the press.

According to Livason the four suspects were spotted by Malawi Defence Soldiers at Karonga roundabout, mobilizing people to take part in the legally suspended demonstrations.

He said the four will answer charges of contempt of court and spreading false news.

Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) led by Timothy Mtambo have been holding demonstrations national wide to force Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah to resign for failing to manage the May 21 tripartite election.
