Suspected thief beaten to death in Chiradzulu

An angry mob in Chiradzulu on Thursday beat to death a 45 year old man for stealing five bags of maize.

Chiradzulu Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sub-Inspector Vincent Khola confirmed the development on Friday saying Duncan Chitsulo broke into a house at Chatha Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Likoswe in the district where he stole five bags of maize amounting to K 50,000.

“The owner saw him and shouted for help. The neighbours were able to catch him. He was mercilessly beaten and later burnt to death,” said Khola.

Khola said the incident was reported to Nguludi Police Unit who rushed to the scene with doctors from Nguludi Hospital.

“The doctors revealed that death was caused by internal hemorrhage and severe burns,” he said.

He said the remains have been buried at John Lulanga Village, T/A Likoswe in Chiradzulu where he hailed from.

This is the second similar death within five days as another person was also burnt to death for attempting to steal at Nguludi Turn-Off in the same area.
