HRDC CALLS OFF DEMOS TODAY TO PAVE WAY FOR THE COURT CASE

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has suspended plans to continue with the demonstrations today in order to pave way for the court case with the Attorney General Kaleken Kaphale at the Supreme Court.

“As Malawians we should remember that there was a letter from the Attorney General which was indicated that on Friday, we have to go to the Supreme Court. As regard to the case we have in relation to the moratorium for 14 days, tomorrow is the day we are going to court and we don’t want these people to be alone. We believe in order, we believe in working with people,” said Mtambo.

Mtambo added that Karonga will continue with the vigils as earlier planned.

“Much as we have done this we have make an exception of Karonga .We had announced for vigils in Karonga and we thank Malawians for coming in large numbers,” said Mtambo.

HRDC has also condemned in strongest terms the assault of two journalists Golden Matonga and Gladys Nthenda.

Mtambo has since appealed to security agencies to make sure the culprits are brought to book.
