A 33-year-old man is in police custody in Phalombe for allegedly defiling a 1-year-old baby girl.
London Ndalama committed the offence on 30th August 2019 at Robert Village, Traditional Authority Chiwalo in the district.
The complainant left the baby with her uncle to fetch water at a nearby borehole, according to Phalombe Police Public Relations Officer, Seagant Innocent Moses.
“The uncle, who is the suspect, took an advantage to defile the child. The mother, however, wondered that her child was unhappy and later noticed that the baby had some semen around her private part,” said the PRO.
She then reported to Nambazo police unit that later led to the arrest of the suspect who is now answering defilement charges contrary to section 138 of the penal code.
The victim was referred to Nambazo health centre where it was established that the baby had really been defiled.
He will soon appear in court to answer the charge.
