MAN GETS 10YRS IHL

The Lilongwe first magistrate court has sentenced a 21 year Isaac Kamwera to 10yrs imprisonment with hard labor for theft of a motor vehicle during the August 6 vigils held in Lilongwe by Human Rights Defenders Coalition.

Central region deputy police spokesperson Patrick Kasauka said the convict store the vehicle a Toyota Hilux Registration number KK438 from Vincent Malungo at City Center.

According to Kasauka the court has also sentenced two other accomplices who were with Kamwera to 7yrs.The accomplices are Mwayi Chope 27 years and Madalitso Kaliyati 22 years.

“This happened on 6 August when HRDC were conducting vigils in Lilongwe. The convicts stopped Malungo and his car. They started asking for money and Malungo gave them k1000,”said Kasauka.

Kasauka added; “The three saw that the money was not enough and they started breaking the car with stones and the owner Vincent Malungo came out to get the laptop they took from the car. While trying to get his laptop back Isaac Kamwara went into the car and drove it.”

Isaac Kamwara was arrested at Dedza Boarder where he was trying to go to Mozambique with the car.
