Masambuka case resumes today

The High Court in Blantyre is today expected to resume hearing of a case in which 12 people are suspected to have connived and killed Mac Donald Masambuka, a man with albinism, in March 2018 in Machinga district.

High Court and Supreme Court registrar, Agnes Patemba, has confirmed the development saying the case will be presided over by Judge Nyakawunda Kamanga.

Judge Kamanga will preside over the case after taking it over from Zomba based high court judge, Zione Ntaba, who recused herself from the case in May, due to some conflicts of interest.

Judge Ntaba’s decision came after the name of her uncle, Dr. Hetherwick Ntaba, was mentioned in the list of people suspected to have taken a hand in the death of Masambuka.

Dr. Ntaba’s name was mentioned by Alfred Yohane who is the prime suspect in the case.

Among the 12 suspects in the murder case are Father Thomas Muhosha (suspended Roman Catholic priest), Lumbani Kamanga (medical clinician), Chikondi Chileka (police officer) and a biological brother to the deceased Kasimu Masambuka.

Late Mac Donald Masambuka went missing on March 9, 2018 at his home in Machinga district.

Later, his body was found with some parts removed and part of it burned.

In August this year, the High Court in Mchinji sentenced to death three people who were convicted of killing a person with albinism.
