Prince Harry Urges Mutharika to Invest in Youth

Prince Harry The Duke of Sussex of the United Kingdom (UK) has enlightened to President Peter Mutharika that youth are the critical to the country’s development agenda hence a need to invest in them.

Prince Harry made the call during a meeting with Mutharika at Kamuzu palace in Lilongwe.

“During my visit, I will meet young Malawians. They are the future of this country. There is need to support young women especially in areas of sexual reproductive health. We should do more to put more girls in schools,” Harry said.

On tourism, Harry said the country has potential to grow her economy through wildlife.

He commended the Malawi government for its efforts in wildlife conservation.

Taking his turn, Mutharika assured Harry that in the next five years, his government would embark on an aggressive campaign for skills development among youth, targeting secondary school leavers and building community technical colleges.

“Your Royal Highness’ support in particularly campaigning for female education is deeply appreciated. We appreciate the initiatives of UKAid and the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust that are assisting girls and young women to attain better education,” Mutharika said.

Harry, who has also visited South Africa, Botswana and Angola, arrived through Kamuzu International Airport.

His first engagement was to visit Nalikule College of Education, where he interacted with a network of young women who are being supported to complete secondary school with the help of UKAid bursaries under Female Education Campaign project.

Harry is today expected to visit Liwonde National Park in Machinga District.

Prince Harry, arrived in the country Sunday as part of his 10-day tour of Southern African countries.
