4-year-old boy killed in explosion

ZAMBIA – On Wednesday, a major blast killed a 4-year-old boy from Kabwe, while seriously injuring his younger sister.

There was no immediate information on what had caused the explosion in Makwati area.

Central Province Commissioner of Police Chola Katanga only stated that it had taken place at around 11 am.

“An unknown explosive caused extensive injuries to the boy’s head and on the right palm,” the officer added.

The deceased was later identified as Elijah Mwansa. His 2-year-old sister Catherine, who received several deep cuts and body bruises, is currently battling for her life in Kabwe Central Hospital.

The law-enforcement services are currently investigating the matter.
