Court Suspends Ruling to Bar MCP Witness from Using Gadgets in Court

Constitutional Court hearing in Lilongwe has suspended its ruling to an application by Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) and Peter Mutharika lawyers to bar Malawi Congress Party (MCP) witness Daudi Sulemani from using MEC gadgets in testifying.

The court, on September 18 2019, allowed Suleman to use electronic gadgets in his presentation of how the alleged rigging of the May 21 election was conducted.

However, MEC and Mutharika are protesting against the idea arguing that Sulemani will compromise the security of electoral process if he (Sulemani) is allowed to use the commission’s gadgets.

The court says since it is yet to hear the arguments from the MCP, it will reserve its ruling until then.

Meanwhile, lawyers for President Mutharika are cross examining fifth witness for MCP Eisenhower Mkaka.
