Tembo asks Ansah to resign

Former Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President John Zenus Ungapake Tembo has joined those people calling for the immediate resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Jane Ansah for failing to manage the May 21 polls.

Tembo who retired from frontline politics in 2013 said this in an exclusive interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) on Wednesday.

According to Tembo, there are so many professionals who can handle her position; hence, the need for her to resign.

JZU has also asked Malawians from both sides to avoid violence after the court ruling and accept the outcome.

But Ansah has on several times refused to step down, arguing that her hands are clean and she will wait for court ruling on the matter.

MCP and United Transformation Movement (UTM) President Dr. Saulos Chilima are seeking nullification of the polls.

The case has since resumed at the Constitutional Court where parties involved in the case are making oral submission starting with Malawi Law Society.

Meanwhile a panel of five judges hearing the case will deliver its ruling on the matter in February next year.
