The 2019 Drought Killed Over 21000 Cattle In Zimbabwe – Report

The 2019 drought, hit Matabeleland, Zimbabwe the hardest as 21400 beasts were lost due to its effects Sunday Mail reports.

According to the publication, Beitbridge was hit the most as it lost 4000 cattle, while one Beitbridge farmer lost a total of $150 cattle.
Speaking to the publication one Zondani Muchemwa a Mat South Provincial officer said:

Most communal farmers have lost cattle due to poverty. Farmers are losing as many as 20 animals, and there is one farmer in Beitbridge who has remained with less than 30 cattle from his herd of 200,” said Matabeleland South provincial livestock officer Mr Zondani Muchemw

The drought also left half the population in need of food aid.
