Police in running battles with angry community in Chitipa

Information reaching Faceofmalawi indicates that there are running battles between the police and the angry community in Chitipa.

According to information at hand, community members from Chitipa this morning went to Malawi Revenue Authority office at Chitipa Boma to verify if MRA office at Mbilima has been shut down.

As there were there discussing with MRA official reporters from Tumtufye Radio were seen taking photos of the protesting community members. This did not go down well with some protesters who reacted by stoning the reporters.

In a move to rescue the reporters, police officers fired teargas to disperse the protesters leading to chaos.

The commotion led to looting of some shops and some people have been injured.
