Women should avoid fried foods before pregnancy

A study published in Diabetologia established that women who eat fried foods before becoming pregnant recorded a greater risk of falling victims to gestational diabetes.

Generic research was conducted on 15,000 women and it was later ascertained that fried foods could pose a greater risk to a woman before conceiving. They may also affect them when trying to get pregnant.

The report noted, women who ate fried foods seven or more times a week had about 88% risk of acquiring gestational diabetes as compared to those women who ate food less than once a week.

Most restaurant fried foods were found to cause more harm than home-cooked ones. The negative effects were more severe in the restaurant foods as it is believed most restaurants reuse cooking oil when frying, a practice that oxidize the oil to a toxic substance.

“Refrying may produce more of those detrimental chemicals,” explains co-author Cuilin Zhang, MD, an investigator at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

Frying can as well create inflammatory compounds that may botch the cells and bring about diabetes.

Gestational diabetes is one of the public health problems affecting the human race, caused by a number of factors ranging from eating fried foods to sugary foodstuffs.
