Lilongwe Int’l Airport Police Intercept Cocaine

Date:

LILONGWE: Airport police in Malawi have intercepted seven kilograms of cocaine hidden in television screens in arrivals Tuesday.

One suspect, a Malawian woman arriving from India, has been arrested on suspicion that the illegal drug was hers.

Airport police spokesperson Sergeant Peter Botha, told Zodiak Online that the suspect hid the dangerous drug in television screens to escape airport security checks.

The suspect has been identified as Annie Maria Masangano of Ntenje village in Traditional Authority Likoswe in Chiradzulu district.

Sergeant Botha says Miss Masangano was coming from India on Ethiopian Airways via Addis Ababa and she was arrested upon arrival at KIA around 14hrs November 30.

Miss Masangano will appear in Lilongwe Magistrate Court on Thursday charged with importing dangerous drugs.

Miss. Masangano is aged 24 and comes from Mtenje Village in Traditional Authority Likoswe in Chiladzulu district.

This is the second incident arrested on charges of importing dangerous drugs into Malawi through Kamuzu International Airport.

Malawi is thought to be a soft spot for drug traffickers largely owing to its porous borders and inferior systems.—Zodiak Online
