LILONGWE: A local NGO says government is contributing to increased domestic violence because of its reluctance to put in place laws that criminalize early marriages.

Executive Director for Meaningful Action on HIV Support Network Association Mr. James Mussa said this to Zodiak Online in Lilongwe as the world observes 16 days of activism.

He said it was insensitive of government to criminalise under age on motor vehicle driving and on voting while staying silent about early marriages.

The organization has since embarked on training communities in rights activism, revamping rights clubs in schools and drilling local leaders in human rights protect.

Mr. Mussa said his organization has stepped up the campaign against domestic violence as part of its contribution to fight vice.
