New three-star hotel and shopping complex Projects in Mzuzu City

Five Star Hotel: One of the Chinese projects

A Chinese investor and a Malawian of Asian origin have secured permits to construct a three-star hotel and a shopping complex which will house a hotel in Mzuzu city.

The Mzuzu city council has allocated space for this within the city’s new Central Business District of Katoto.

Construction of the hotel by the Chinese national has already begun whereas that of the shopping mall starts soon.

The Mzuzu city council has given two investors permits to construct multi million kwacha hotels within the city’s new Central Business District of Katoto.

One of the investors of Chinese nationality has since started constructing what will be a 3star hotel, while a Malawian of Asian origin is also erecting a multimillion shopping complex that will also house a hotel.

Director of planning for Mzuzu city council Mr. Alexander Chirambo said these new developments will also help in boosting the city’s contribution towards the country’s financial basket.

Mzuzu city continues to grow with most developments taking shape in the new Katoto commercial area.

Meanwhile, the two projects are running concurrently.

A Chinese investor trading in the country as Peace shopping has been granted permission to construct a K60million hotel expected to have various facilities including a swimming pool as it guns for a 3 star hotel status.

The project which is already underway is expected to be complete by 2013.

According to director of planning and development for Mzuzu city council Mr. Alexander Chirambo, the council has also granted permission to a Malawian of Asian origin who is constructing a multi-million kwacha shopping complex that will also house a hotel.

He said the complex has been designed after the Lilongwe’s Cross roads concept, such that it will also have facilities such as a filling station, a shopping mall among others.

The council says it stands to benefit a lot from the projects as apart from creating jobs for the city’s residents, it will not only add to the growth of the city but spruce up its outlook as well.

Since business will increase, the city’s contribution to the national

Gross Domestic Product GDP will also go up, according to Mr. Chirambo.

Currently Mzuzu city contributes K6billion to the country’s GDP, while its economy is growing at a rate of 5.8% per annum. If complete, the two hotels will add to three, a total number of hotels in the city.  – Zodiak
