MP’s URGED TO UNITE

Member of parliament for Phalombe North, Hon. Anna Kachikho, has urged members of parliament from both the government and opposition sides to unite and work together in order to develop this country.

“It is high time we stand up and pull our socks to work as one,” said Kachikho.

She also advised members of parliament to respect the president because he is our leader and that he is developing all constituencies regardless of their party color or divide.

Among the things that Kachikho tackled were the zero-deficit budget and devaluation of the Kwacha. Kachikho said that she supports the president not to devalue the Kwacha arguing that the cost of living for Malawian people especially those in rural areas will rise since many of them are unemployed.

The member of parliament also said that she does not believe that devaluing the Kwacha will solve any problems in Malawi.

On the zero-deficit budget, Kachikho said that as a country we need to work and support ourselves since we cannot depend on begging money from donors forever.

On the other hand, member of parliament for Thyolo Thava, Lifred Nawena, asked Malawians not to be tempted by the zero-deficit budget arguing that if we are really there, then why is Malawi not improving on the pay of civil servants.

“Malawi never wanted a zero deficit budget but rather it was introduced because we annoyed our donors” said Nawena.
