Norway Govt pumps in K236m grant to Malawi Arts


The Norwegian ambassador to Malawi Asbjorn Eidhammer hosted artists, poets and cultural activists at a hotel in Blantyre last night after signing a grant of K236 million for various activities in the arts industry.

The guest of honour at the event was Minister for Arts and Tourism, Daniel Liwimbi who expressed appreciation for the grant on behalf of the government.

Liwimbi challenged the private sector to play a greater role in promoting the arts and culture in Malawi.

Earlier, several poets including social activist Rafiq Hajat recited poems.

The Journalist Union of Malawi, Musicians Association of Malawi, and the Writers Association of Malawi are among the beneficiaries of the grant.
