ill-treatment at Bwaila Hospital

There are strong reports that most women in Lilongwe are complaining over alleged ill-treatment at Bwaila Hospital Martenity wing by members of staff.

Most women revealed that Nurses at the hospital use abusive words on Pregnant women who seek martenal services at the hospital for unknown reasons.

A pregnant woman who spoke on strict condition of anonymity, said in some cases women are left unattended to by Nurses on duty.

She said this sometimes has even forced Pregnant women to deliver in corridors.

This comes amid reports that health personnel at the hospital have staged a sit-in forcing government to pay outstanding arrears.

However, Lilongwe District Health Officer Dr Mwawi Mwale dismissed the claims.

Dr Mwale said the only challenge the hospital is currenlty facing is lack of health personnel which she said is missinterprated as negligence.
