Minibus owners questioned for charging high fares despite fuel price reduction

Minibus passengers in Lilongwe have accused the leadership of the Minibus owners association of Malawi for continuing to charge old fares despite the government reducing fuel prices early this month.

Some minibus conductors are said to be demanding the old fares arguing the association has not yet provided them with new price lists.

The development has angered the passengers who have accused minibus owners of rushing to change the prices soon after the fuel prices going up, while delaying to reduce their charges when the fuel prices go down.

The passengers described the association as a useless institution for their failure to make follow-ups with the min bus operators on compliance to the revised bus fares.

However, the owners downplayed accusations saying they are doing all they can to effect the new prices.

The Malawi energy regulatory authority closed at least 12 filling stations for selling fuel at old high pump prices after the reduction of fuel by the authority a day after.
