Flames 3 places up in Coca-cola Fifa ranking

The Flames continue gaining momentum on Coca-Cola Fifa rankings and are up three places on the latest statistics posted in the world football governing body’s website.

The Flames are now on position 90 in the world and 23 in Africa up from last month’s 93, thanks to a 1-0 win against Africa champions Zambia in an international friendly played at Kamuzu Stadium on July 6.

The 2012 Afcon holders have since dropped three places following the loss to Malawi and are on position 44 and nine in Africa.

Last month, Malawi was up 14 places after a one-all draw against Nigeria and a 2-0 victory over Chad.

But this month the Flames got 410.22 points from the victory over Zambia outside the normal rankings calculations.

Malawi’s fellow World Cup Group F members Namibia have also risen on the ladder.

The Brave Warriors are up three places to position 113 in the world and 31 in Africa.

Kenya on the other hand have dropped a place to 126 in the world and 38 in Africa while Nigeria are still in top 10 in Africa on position 10 and 58 in the world.

Cote d’Ivoire are still Africa’s best team and are on position 16 on the world ladder followed by Ghana, Algeria and Libya in that order.

South Africa are still Confederation of Africa Football Association (Cosafa) best on position 14 in Africa and 67 in the world.

World Cup and European champions Spain are still the world’s best team followed by Germany on second position, England on third, Uruguay ofnfourth and Portugal on fifth spot.
