Professor Mutharika says thank you in a ‘moving’ speech

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) interim President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has thanked people of the Eastern Region for the moral, spiritual and solidarity rendered to the family when he lost his brother and former Head of State of the Republic of Malawi Ngwazi Professor Bingu wa Mutharika.

He was speaking to a sea of people gathered at Balaka Secondary School ground on Sunday.

The rally was organised by Mutharika as one way of thanking people for their support during the funeral of Bingu who died suddenly following a heart attack.

He singled out leaders of various religious denominations that included the Roman Catholic Church, Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP), the Anglican Church, the Islamic faith community, Pentecostal Churches, traditional leaders and political leaders.

Professor Mutharika then went on to assure DPP supporters most of whom were clad in the parties’ blue attire that he will stick to the party come rain or sunshine.

He then tackled the issue of the forthcoming DPP convention later in the year hence assuring Malawians of intra party democracy that the door was open for anybody who wants to contest for the hottest seat of the party during the Indaba.

He promised to support whoever wins as the party’s presidential candidate for the forthcoming 2014 Presidential and Parliamentary elections both financially and materially.

He further tackled issues to do with security status in the country which has seen an increase in murder cases as well as armed robberies which has seen members of the business fraternity losing millions of kwacha.

Mutharika also singled out the skyrocketing commodity prices and general cost of living hence promising to spell out his vision for Malawi at the party indaba in his acceptance speech should he come out victorious.

Nevertheless, he singled out continuation of the five universities projects which were his late brothers’ brain child as well as a secure and safe Malawi.

Finally he extended his and DPP’s best wishes to Peoples Party’s (PP) of State President of the Republic of Malawi Mrs. Joyce Banda convention which starts today August 27, 2012.

Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has held a number of rallies across the nation where he has enjoyed massive support from the grassroots levels from members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
