MSCE exams will not be re-administered despite leakage

The Malawi government said Wednesday that irregularities that rocked the 2012 Malawi School Certificate of Education in July were so minimal to warrant re-administration of the examinations.

But a statement released by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, says students implicated in the leakage will be disqualified.

The statement released Wednesday, after an outcry from the general public over the exam leakage, MANEB together with the Malawi Police Service launched investigations into the alleged irregularities.

“Investigation teams went out to all the places from where allegations originated from. Among other things, the investigations revealed that some papers for mathematics I and II and to a less extent English paper IV and Life skills had leaked.” reads part of the statement.

But the statement says nobody was caught with the whole examination paper.

The investigations also found out that the leakage was localized to some identified examination centers in the capital city Lilongwe.

A total of 26 people are said to have been involved in the MSCE examination leakage.

“Three Police Officers from Police Headquarters, two teachers from Lomu Private Secondary School, a mechanic in Lilongwe, and twenty (20) candidates from some schools were involved in the leakage,” says the statement.

In this vein, says the statement, all the learners who used the leaked examinations will be disqualified, after investigation on the matter is through.
