Policemen accused of theft in Mchinji

Hell broke loose on Tuesday at Kamwendo trading centre in Mchinji where people went on rampage stoning a police unit, accusing the law enforcers there of theft.

The angry villagers surrounding the area alleged that some of the police officers at the unit steal from the communities.

“We have evidence that two police officers from the unit are involved in a series of thefts here,” said one villager. “Are they supposed to steal from us or protect us”.

When the people started stoning the police unit, the law enforcers had to use tear gas to disperse the angry villagers.

Meanwhile, police headquarters has dismissed the allegations of theft by its officers however talks with the community have started to fight a solution to the escalating crime in the area.
