World Food Program assures smooth food aid delivery to flood victims

Flood victims in Malawi are being assured a smooth distribution of food aid amid heavy rains that have been affecting most parts of the country.

In most cases, aid distribution to places that are in need becomes difficult during the rainy season due to poor road conditions and networks in the affected areas.

One of the organisations that play a crucial role in aid distribution in such times is the world food program (WFP) which is set to provide aid to households that have been affected by floods this season.

Deputy director for the WFP in the country Barton Osman told the media that the rains will not affect the distribution system.

“The rainy season imposes big challenges for everyone, however we have managed to preposition in areas that will become unreachable,” said Osman.

“We have also mobilised our regional fleets of tracks and our dedicated tracks of four by four tracks which will help us mitigate our challenges. So overall we are comfortable that we will able to meet those needs as planned.

Most parts in the country have been hit by heavy floods that have washed away crops in most fields that would have been potential food cover for the affected families.

Thousands of people have been left homeless due to the floods.
