US rapper Chris Brown and Rihanna were among the high profile artists who attended the 12th Edition of the Kora Award held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Sunday.
The awards dubbed ‘African Grammy Awards,’ which saw Malawi’s gospel singer Thocco Katimba getting a nomination in the category of Best Male Artistic Religious Music, were scheduled to be held on Saturday but had to be postponed because Chris Brown missed his flight.
Ideally the organizers were quoted by France24, that Brown would arrive in Ivory Coast on Sunday and that the awards would be held Monday.
However, some reports had it that the event was shifted from Saturday not because of Brown’s missing the flight but rather the organizers had their own problems.
Media reports say that the US rapper finally made it to the event with Rihanna and that Nigeria’s P-Square also attended the red carpet event.
It was not yet clear yesterday as to who had won the category which Katimba was nominated as the results were still unavailable on the Kora Awards website.
Katimba who was unaware of the nomination, followed in the footsteps of Mtebeti Wambali Mkandawire who was also nominated in the 2002 Kora Award in the category for Best Artiste from Southern Africa.
Nigerian websites screamed with headlines of some of their artists winning in different categories they were nominated.
Some of the winners include Davido and Chidinma.
Davido was absent during the presentation as he won the Best Male Newcomer award, while Chidinma walked away with the Best Female West African Act.
