Trust in politicians is vanity

The Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama) on Thursday took to the streets to protest against the rising cost of living. John Kapito, Cama executive director, has his finger fixed on government as the culprit in the suffering Malawians are going through.

But can governments ever be trusted? Pastor Aubrey Mwasinga, president of Redeemed for a Purpose Ministries, thinks not, as BRIGHT MHANGO writes.

People are looking out for help from the politicians and the politicians promise them heaven on earth. But the truth is that they don’t have it. They get into power for their own ambitions!” declares Pastor Aubrey Mwasinga without apology.

Just like that. PP, DPP, Republicans, Democrats, Labour Party and MCP cannot help anyone? But why?

“To change a man’s world, you must first change them from inside-out. If you change anybody’s environment without changing their inside, their environment will change back to their level of thinking—their initial state and no man has the weapon for doing this other than the Word of God.

“It’s like washing the cup/vessel on the outside and hoping that after you wash it really good, the inside will as well become clean. No! Your actions will be futile. You ought to have access in the inside,” he says.

He argues based on John 15:3 where Jesus said the human vessel can only be cured by the word of God: “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.” (KJV)

Mwasinga then declared that the duty to preach that word which can clean a man has been placed in the hands of preachers, reverends and pastors.

So, by induction, one would argue, your pastor is more important to you than your Member of Parliament, councilor or even chief.

What about those who do not believe, people such as George Thindwa? Where will they get their change and cleansing?

“What if they don’t believe? Yes, that’s the reason for preaching. They will not believe until we preach. The Bible says; ‘Faith cometh by hearing’ and that ‘the entrance of thy word brings light,.’ As they hear and hear, light comes in and faith comes in and they begin to believe and then they are changed,” contends Mwasinga.

So come 2014, what should Malawians do? Is DPP, PP or UDF not going to deliver change to the people?

Nobody, says Mwasinga.

“Malawians, let’s not look up to politicians. We are wasting time! Look to God. Let’s preach the Word and allow our nation to prosper.

“Most of these things that we complain of come as a result of selfishness, fear and greed and the cure for the both of these is LOVE. And it’s only God that sheds abroad that love in us through His Spirit by the teaching of the Word. Look to God I pray

“Let’s pray for our land other than compete with politicians. God should be the one ‘fighting them’ on our behalf. That’s the first place to start. Dialogue etc may come after God has already won the battle for us,” says Mwasinga.

Mwasinga’s theory resonates well with Mike Ruffin’s message on www.devotions.com where he says as much as the earthly part makes us all human, Christians should not put their trust in them.

“…Christians should enjoy life but keep it in perspective. Our purpose for living is not found in earthly treasures. It’s found in a life filled with a desire to serve the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s why he said, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.” (John 4:13),” writes Ruffin.
